Relâche Spa At Gaylord
Texan Resort
Overlooking beautiful Lake Grapevine and surrounded
by rolling pastureland the magnificent Gaylord Texan
pays tribute to The Lone Star State as only Texas
can. The Gaylord Texan is conveniently located only
six minutes from Dallas-Fort Worth International
Airport.
As you drive up to the property on Gaylord Trail
on the right is a marina, with water toys and boats
for all to enjoy.
About The Resort
Guests of the resort experience the best of the
Lone Star State. Under their signature glass atriums
you’ll find dining, shopping, and entertainment
nestled among four-and-a-half acres of lush indoor
gardens. The trails around the resort are lined
with well-manicured gardens and landscaping. Marvel
at Palo Duro Canyon in the Lone Star Atrium, stroll
around and take in the festive atmosphere of the
Riverwalk Atrium, or taste the Contemporary Southwestern
creations of award-winning Texas chef Stephan Pyles
at Ama Lur in the Hill Country Atrium. I munched
on tapas and soup at Ama Lur which were tasty, and
then stopped by the Texas Station sports bar, which
had 52 plasma screens scattered amidst the area
and the largest big screen TV I’ve ever seen! For
pure sports enthusiasts, just below the big screen
are oversized leather chairs. There was even Internet
access right on the bar. I also had the delight
to lunch at the Riverwalk Café. The Riverwalk
Café was just that….a mini replica of the
original Riverwalk in San Antonio…river, bridges
and all. They had a beautiful market-style set-up
with local fare of salads, soups, meats, cheeses…
most anything to fit any diet or desire.
The resort is large with 1,511 guest rooms (including
124 luxury suites). Each is stately and elegant,
featuring luxurious king or double-queen beds, louvered
closets and double vanities with lighted make-up
mirrors to help guests feel right at home. The ranch-style
room that I stayed in was comfortable, with a large
cushy leather chair in the corner. I especially
loved the balcony doors open, as I could hear the
waterfalls outside of my room.
Relâche Spa
The April 2004 opening of Gaylord Texan Resort brought
to the North Texas area a Texas-style retreat like
no other. Within the confines of the brand new 2.3
million-square-foot resort and convention center
gleams Relâche Spa, a 25,000 square-foot European-style
spa and fitness center. Relâche, French for
relax or respite, is fast becoming the region’s
premier hideaway for relaxation, pampering and exercise,
as well as a tribute to the Gaylord Hotels brand.
Service at the hotel was superb! Ask and they’ll
do their best to make your request a reality.
Located within the resort’s Riverwalk Atrium, Relâche
features 12 spa service treatment rooms, two Spa
Suites, a Quiet Room for meditation and peaceful
thinking, a full-service beauty salon and spa boutique.
The resort’s philosophy of having “everything in
one place” continues at Relâche with the property’s
commitment to creating a spa of significant proportions.
Also within the spa facility is a state-of-the-art,
4,000-square-foot fitness center with a 20-meter
indoor lap pool, LifeFitness-brand treadmills, elliptical
trainers, recumbent and upright bikes, and a Smith
Press System. The pool area is relaxing in itself,
with comfy big lounge chairs.
The overall size of Relâche Spa affords Gaylord
Texan Resort the opportunity to offer a bounty of
spa services, ample space between exercise equipment,
and an array of fitness classes. Relâche Spa
features one wet room, men’s and women’s dry sauna,
sauna, whirlpool and steam rooms and an array of
body treatments. I was greeted at the reception
desk of the spa with a smile and guided to the entrance
of the spa where I was fitted with slippers and
a soft, lined robe…the kind you’d love to take home.
With a full beauty salon, Relâche Spa is equipped
to offer anyone who desires them, an array of manicures,
pedicures, makeup applications and hair styling.
Hand and foot therapies worth noting are the Relâche
Signature Spa Manicure which is hailed as a “facial
for the hands” and includes a two-step citric acid
exfoliation, followed by an essential oil-infused
ceramide hand and arm massage and a perfect polish.
You can also experience a special treat in one of
Relâche Spa Suites! This perfect couples getaway,
allows you to share unforgettable memories side
by side with someone special! Enjoy a Swedish or
Aromatherapy massage in a secluded spa couples haven.
Signature Treatments
With a diverse array of spa guests, Relâche
Spa has created many male and female-specific services
and developed treatments to appeal to their distinct
life needs. The unique therapies range from Dream
Catcher, which submerges the guest in a comforting
cocoon of fragrances followed by exfoliation and
a massage of calming vetivert essential oils, to
Grapevine and Roses which envelopes the skin in
rich oils and concludes with a skin exfoliation
and relaxing scalp massage.
An alternative to the traditional deep tissue massage
is the Hot Rock in Texas treatment, which utilizes
warmed smooth river basalt stones lubricated with
essential aromatherapy oils to create muscle penetration.
I was fortunate to have one of these at the end
of a very stressful day. My therapist guided me
into the treatment room for a relaxing, peaceful
experience. She neatly laid the stones in strategic
places on the back of my body, from head to toe,
asking as she went along if they were too hot. They
were just on the cusp but I knew that the heat was
doing it’s trick. She left me alone for a bit to
let the hot rocks do their work. She then returned
and began the massage part of this treatment. Her
strokes were soft and slow, with the hot rocks in
her hands. It was a good way to end the long day!
Suggestion:
As with other types of massages, make sure you specify
what kind of pressure you would like, as different
therapists have different capabilities. If you want
a deep massage, point that out when you make your
appointment, so as to enjoy this treatment as much
as possible.
The signature Texas Red Grapefruit Sugar Glow energizes
the body with an exfoliation of essence of grapefruit,
sugar and aloe.
The Olive Stone body treatment combines an invigorating
body polish of Olive Stone scrub with a choice of
body oils to invigorate the skin and ease aching
muscles.
Mothers-to-be, as well those not expecting, will
enjoy the Bed of Roses cocoon which nourishes and
softens the skin and is followed by a relaxing scalp
massage.
Among the therapies for men is the Ranch Hand Muscle
Buster, a warm body treatment using aromatherapy
oils and tension-releasing gel to loosen tired,
overworked muscles and ease joint discomfort.
The Golfer’s Massage combines stretching, sports
massage and deep tissue techniques to ease tension
and increase flexibility.
Also designed for the male audience, but enjoyed
by females too, is the Cool Gel Foot Treatment which
soothes hot, tired, swollen legs and feet with a
combination of menthol and tiger herbs.
I really got there at the end of the day, so wasn’t
able to really take advantage of the many services
offered at this fine spa. There was the quiet room,
with aromatherapy, a water wall fountain and big
chaise lounges to lie down on. There was even one
for two.
The hot tub was above ground, which was unique
to this spa.
They even had a lounge where both men and women
could relax for water, tea, fruit and more. This
is a nice touch when you are there as a couple since
most spas don’t have a co-ed lounge.
